Today (April 7th), we’re debuting the new single Sing from Ed Sheeran on Mix 104.1.

The first track off his yet-to-be-released album, x or multiply, is destined to be a smash, according to Mix music director, Mike Mullaney.

“On this one, he has taken the proverbial next step. He has added a high falsetto to the song, and you hear that in the single. It almost sounds like Justin Timberlake,” Mullaney says after hearing Sing. “That’s one of the vibes you get from this, it’s inspired by Timberlake, but he puts the ‘Ed-spin’ on it.”

“The new addition of the high vocals really shows his diversity as an artist. The song, I think, is a number one song,” Mullaney continued.

Ed Sheeran’s X is set to be released worldwide on June 23rd. A lucky few have already previewed the album – including Mix 104.1’s Mike Mullaney, and he tells us that in his opinion, virtually every track is a hit.

“I was at a record release party at Electric Ladyland studios in New York City last month, and all the songs I heard, I thought could be singles,” said Mullaney. “There’s a song that I think is going to be a huge wedding song – it reminds you of Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye. There are songs that sound like A-Team only on steroids – better.”

According to Mullaney, Sheeran wrote 119 songs for the album, but only picked the best of the best to be included. The first track to be released, Sing, is playing on Mix 104.1 as of now. Keep listening to hear it, and let us know what you think of the song in the comments section below.
